Western Desert Archival Project

by Laurent DOUSSET

Summary

Create databases containing references to, and content of original archival files relating to the Western Desert of Australia

Procedure:

Archival documents in archival files are scanned and OCR processed. Their references are entered into a database. Document images are inserted as "mutlimedia fields". OCR processed texts as "text fields". Every archival file corresponds to one separate Database (except for Database 1), which are relationaly linked to a "mother database".

Outcome:

Complete set of databases containing all relevant federal and state archives relating to the Western Desert. Eventually CD-ROM containing the databases and on-line access.

First Steps:

Three databases have been created. Below, you will see three tables listing the files' documents summary (author of document, Title of doc., Archives, Series number, Item number). Most of those documents have already been scanned, and many have been OCR processed.

Listing 1: Western Desert Archival Database 1:

Listing 3: Western Desert Archival Database 3:
