The Throssell Range
Posted by: Ian Throssell (IP Logged)

I am a Geography teacher in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England - fascinated to learn more about the area that carries my name, the people that live there, how the range got its name, etc. Don't really know where to start so I would appreciate any help you are able to give.
Many thanks.

The Njangumarta are linked to the Throssell Ranges. Check the following three pages:

<a href="http://www.ausanthrop.net/resources/ausanthrop_db/detail.php?id_search=425">Nynagumarta Iparuka</a>, also called Inland Nyangumarta

George Throssell was the second premier of Western Australia (although there is some controversy about his formal appointment as premier) and was a large land owner in Northam (major WA wheatbelt town). He was also Minister for Lands for a while. I presume that the ranges (and also Lake Throssell - north east of Kalgoorlie) were named after him.

Hope this helps in tracking things down.
